The PAH Podcast

What’s the PAH Podcast?

Welcome to central headquarters for the Physicians for Ancestral Health Podcast!

In the PAH podcast, we’ll be collecting stories from members of our organization, and exploring the frontiers and potential of ancestral health. Like the mission of our organization, our goal with this podcast is to bring these principles we believe so strongly in to a broader audience, both within the health care community and beyond.

Who are the hosts?

HOST: Tommy Wood, BM BCh (MD), PhD

Tommy Wood is a Senior Fellow in the Pediatrics Department at the University of Washington, and Chief Scientific Officer of Nourish Balance Thrive, an online-based company using advanced biochemical testing to optimize performance in athletes.

Tommy was born in the US to Icelandic and British parents (which means he has three passports in two different names). He was predominantly raised in the UK, but also spent periods of time at school in Iceland, Germany, and France. Tommy received a bachelor’s degree in Natural Sciences and Biochemistry from the University of Cambridge before studying medicine at the University of Oxford. He worked as a junior doctor in central London for two years after medical school, and then moved to Norway to complete a PhD in physiology and neuroscience at the University of Oslo.

Tommy is currently President of Physicians for Ancestral Health, he is a director of the British Society of Lifestyle Medicine and the Icelandic Health Symposium, and is on the scientific advisory board of Hintsa Performance. Tommy has also coached and competed in multiple sports including rowing, CrossFit, powerlifting, and ultra-endurance racing. Alongside his career in medicine and research, Tommy has published and spoken on multiple topics surrounding functional and ancestral approaches to health, including examining the root causes of multiple sclerosis and insulin resistance.

HOST: Josh Turknett, MD

Josh Turknett has practiced neurology in the Atlanta year for over a decade, and is also a best selling author and musician.

He has a bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience & Behavior from Wesleyan University, studied medicine at Emory University, and completed residency in Neurology at the University of Florida. He has conducted clinical research in areas including migraine, stroke, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, peripheral neuropathy, and epilepsy.

Like many in the organization, his appreciation of the power and potential of ancestral health was amplified by personal experience. Among the many wondrous things that happened after he adopted a more ancestrally aligned lifestyle was the elimination of his migraine headaches.

In 2013, he published The Migraine Miracle, which reviews how to implement ancestral health principles to end chronic headaches. He also runs a website and weekly podcast devoted to this topic.

In 2014, Dr. Turknett founded Brainjo, a company that develops human potential through applied neuroscience. These days, he spends his days running Brainjo, exploring the ways in which he can deliver the transformative potential of ancestral health to the people who so desperately need it, and sneaking in the occasional banjo tune.

You can learn more about his various projects at jturk.net.
