My story:
Dr. Ronald A. Primas is a board-certified and doubly re-certified internist, a preventive medicine specialist, and is a Fellow in the American College of Physicians and the American College of Preventive Medicine. Dr. Primas is a travel medicine expert and is doubly credentialed in Travel Medicine by the leading national and international organizations in Travel Health. He is certified in Clinical Tropical Medicine and Travelers’ Health from the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene and certified in Travel Medicine from the International Society of Travel Medicine. He is often likened to a modern day Marcus Welby MD, and since 1993 is a pioneer in the concierge medicine movement. Dr. Primas is the recipient of the prestigious American Academy of Home Care Physicians House Call Doctor of the Year Award and a recipient of the AMA Physician Recognition Award. He is also listed in the annual editions of the Guide to America’s Top Physicians and is a New York Super Doctor in internal medicine. Dr. Primas is also a Castle Connolly and US News and World Report Regional Top Doctor in Internal Medicine annually since 2012. Dr. Primas has also been chosen as one of the Top Docs in Concierge Medicine annually since 2012.

Dr. Primas is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, an honor achieved by their peers for personal integrity, superior competence in internal medicine, professional accomplishment and demonstrated scholarship. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Preventive Medicine and is dedicated to promoting health and reducing the risks of preventable disease, injury and disability. He is a Clinical Instructor of Medicine at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and an Attending Physician in the Department of Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital and Beth Israel Medical Center.

Dr. Primas is board certified by The American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine. Blending the best of Western & Eastern medical concepts, Dr. Primas utilizes both modalities in preventing and treating illness. Dr. Primas emphasizes promoting health, preventing illness and raises awareness of dis-ease in our lives rather than merely managing symptoms. He is a firm believer in the WHO definition of health; Health is a state of complete physical, mental, social and spiritual well-being and not merely the absence of dis-ease or infirmity. His use of both traditional and complementary/integrative/holistic medicine like acupuncture, qigong, exercise and nutrition focus on the whole patient and his/her relation to their environment and specific individual needs. In addition to using traditional medications to treat a variety of maladies, Dr. Primas supplements treatment with natural medications as well.

Dr. Primas is always on the cutting edge of medicine and is now guiding his patients using genomics, microbiome analysis and telomere length for a more detailed, personal approach to their health. He firmly believes that this approach not only extends the human lifespan, but significantly improves the quality of one’s life (healthspan). He encourages and supports his patients’ quest for optimal health by guiding them through the myriad of results from their genomic profiles and microbiome analysis, reviewing their data from personal health tracking devices and apps and advising them on how to best interpret the data and make it useful.

Dr. Primas practices what he preaches. Dr. Primas believes that physicians should be active role models to improve the lives of patients and ultimately the community as well. While encouraging his patients to live a healthy lifestyle, he exercises daily and eats a nutritionally dense, organic (mostly local) and balanced diet congruent with the ancestral health movement which Dr. Primas has personally seen benefits in many of his patients using the Primal Primal Protocol.

He is also a pioneer in the quantified self movement, tracking and using his data to continuously improve and maintain his health. Dr. Primas, in addition to incorporating nutrition and cardiovascular, strength training and flexibility exercises, participates in regular stress reduction by engaging in qigong meditation. To achieve overall health, studies show that the best way to prevent and treat the overwhelming majority of illnesses that plague our communities today is to exercise regularly, eat a nutritionally sound diet and engage in some form of stress reduction technique.

On a personal note, Dr. Primas first and foremost is a family man. He is encouraging to his children and along with his wife of 30+ years foster education and nurture their passions for their avocations. Dr. Primas hobbies are varied and quite interesting. He is an avid traveler and travels extensively and regularly. He also is an ardent “foodie” and is very enthusiastic about international cuisine.
He is also a passionate reef aquarist and has been raising and breeding marine aquatic life since he was a boy in an ecologically sound and sustainable manner. He is a certified SCUBA diver and usually travels with his family on SCUBA excursions. He had a marine biology minor in college and in addition to keeping abreast with his continuing medical education; he also attends workshops and annual reef aquarist meetings.
Also passionate about music since boyhood, Dr. Primas has incorporated his own music production company, Primal Productions and is working with emerging artists in the alternative rock and hip hop genre’s. Dr. Primas’ extensive contacts in the music industry have fueled his passion and many top artists appreciate Dr. Primas’ “ear” for talent.
